An Intimate London Registrar Wedding

An intimate London registrar wedding at Merton Registrar with a private dinner for 25, thoughtfully designed by Atelier Ateljee as a prelude to France.

A CONSIDERED APPROACH TO AN INTIMATE LONDON WEDDING

Alice and Phillipe had a clear vision for their wedding and knew what mattered to them. Rather than building everything around a single large event, we chose to begin with an intimate London registrar wedding, creating space for a more personal, ceremony with their closest family and friends.

With just 25 guests, it felt personal, intimate and they could have a registrar wedding ceremony where they could personally share the experience with every one of the guests.

A MERTON REGISTAR CEREMONY

Their ceremony took place at Merton Registrar, which was a serendipitous experience as that was where my wedding ceremony was held too, albeit many years ago. The merton registras venue lends itself beautifully to smaller weddings. The building has a classical London charm and needs very little to make it feel personal.

There is a particular kind of feeling that comes with registrar ceremonies of this size. The ceremony is simple and the experience is so much more immediate. Every word is heard, every reaction felt. For Alice and Phillipe, that was at the heart of what they wanted for this ceremony and we were so happy to help create it for them.

SOFT, UNDERSTATED DESIGN

The design direction we orchestrated for them followed the same thinking. Nothing excessive, nothing overly styled. Instead, the focus was on softness and cohesion.

Alice’s bouquet, created by the talented Becky of Rosaria Flowers, set the tone. A palette of whites and pale blue hydrangeas brought a quiet sense of texture without overwhelming the overall look. These floral elements carried through into the dinner, creating continuity without feeling repetitive.

Each detail was considered in relation to the setting and the scale of the celebration.

A PRIVATE DINNER IN LONDON

Following the ceremony, the group gathered for a private dinner at The Arber Garden. It offered a setting that worked particularly well for smaller gatherings.

It was relaxed, understated, and suited to long, unhurried meals where they were able to experience an evening with those they love.

The atmosphere was closer to a well-hosted dinner than a traditional reception. Their guests settled in, conversations flowed, and the structure of the day softened naturally into the evening.

DESIGNING ACROSS TWO CELEBRATIONS

It was such a joy to work with Alice & Philippe and from a planning perspective, this wedding ceremony was always part of a wider story and a start of a beautiful celebration that concluded in the South of France a few months later.

Their ceremony was a little hint of what was to come later in the year. We were able to build on what had already been set and to follow the design but goe bigger and bolder.

WORKING WITH THE RIGHT PEOPLE

A day like this relies heavily on collaboration. With a smaller guest count, every detail becomes more visible, and every supplier plays a more direct role in shaping the experience.

Becky of Rosaria Flowers approached the florals brief perfectly and her creations created a wild flower feeling and also brought in everything that Alice had dreamed of.

Nina from Tender Photography documented the day in a way that felt unobtrusive and natural. There was a shared understanding across the team that the day did not need to be overworked to be meaningful.

That alignment is often what allows a wedding to feel effortless.

A DIFFERENT KIND OF BEGINNING

This London registrar wedding was never intended to replace a larger celebration. It stood alongside it.

What we created for Alice and Phillipe was a beginning for their celebration that felt calm, personal, and and allowed them to enjoy the moment to the fullest.

A smaller wedding, not as a compromise, but as a choice.

And in many ways, that is what made it so impactful.

If you are planning a wedding in London — or somewhere far beyond — and are looking for a planning experience that feels considered from beginning to end, we would love to begin that conversation with you.
