A Destination Wedding at Zorgvliet

An intimate South Africa destination wedding for a UK couple at the historic Zorgvliet wine estate in the Stellenbosch winelands.

Ed and Bex planned their South African wedding from the UK, choosing Zorgvliet Wine Estate as the setting for a relaxed, weekend long celebration. The intent was a wedding shaped around landscape, connection, and time together.

Set beneath the dramatic slopes of the Simonsberg mountains, their wedding unfolded slowly across the estate. It was an informal, beautifully styled and perfect setting for a full weekend with friends and family.

A Historic Wine Estate in the Cape Winelands

Zorgvliet offered them a location that felt both grounded and quietly refined. The estate’s Cape Dutch architecture, vineyards, and open lawns created perfect setting for their multi day celebration. This allowed each part of their weekend to feel connected without being overly structured.

Mountain views framed their wedding experience throughout. From daytime gatherings in the gardens to evenings spent outdoors. The beautiful surrounding landscape became an integral part of the celebration rather than just a backdrop.

Design Led by Place and Restraint

Atelier Ateljee’s design approach was intentionally understated, allowing Zorgvliet’s historic character and natural surroundings to lead. Styling focused on texture, proportion, and materiality rather than excess. Soft linens, organic floral elements, and natural finishes were layered thoughtully across the spaces, creating warmth while maintaining a sense of ease. High tables, relaxed seating areas, and open spaces encouraged guests to gather organically rather than something set in stone.

A Weekend Celebration with Friends and Family

Together with Ed & Bex, we planned this to be an intimate destination wedding weekend. The celebration brought guests from the UK together in one place, allowing space for connection beyond the wedding day itself.

An informal braai and relaxed dinner early in the weekend set the tone, welcoming, unforced, and centred around shared meals and conversation.

On the wedding day, guests travelled by tractor ride to the ceremony, a moment that immediately captured the spirit of the celebration, personal, playful, and rooted in the landscape. The ceremony took place with sweeping mountain views, creating a sense of scale while remaining deeply intimate.

As the sun set, the celebration transitioned seamlessly into dinner. This was followed by late night dancing under the stars, with the estate softly lit and guests lingering long after formalities had passed.

Planning a Destination Wedding from the UK

Ed and Bex entrusted Atelier Ateljee with the full planning and design of their wedding, allowing the entire weekend to be considered as one cohesive experience. From the overall flow of events to the finer logistical details, the focus remained on creating a celebration that felt calm, intentional, and effortless for both the couple and their guests.

The result was a destination wedding that felt deeply personal and beautifully resolved, shaped by place, guided by design, and grounded in time spent together.
